How to keep spiders away while sleeping

Spiders are such scary creatures, right? Well, not all of us are scared of spiders but as previously mentioned, these are things you wouldn’t want to see on your bed. However, you can’t just be in your room the whole day trying to keep them off of your bed. You have other things to take care of, right? With that being said, below are a few tips you can use to keep these creatures off your bed.

1. Use an electronic pest repeller

Electronic pest repellers are easy to use repellers that you simply just plug into the wall.

Electronic pest repellers repel insects, spiders, rodents, mice and the list goes on.

These affordable pest repellers use ultrasonic and electromagnetic waves to drive away pests.

Not only are these electronic repellers effective, they feature a big coverage area and they are also safe to use if you have pets or kids in the house.

2. Use 100% pure peppermint oil

Some people might be wondering, does this actually work?

Yes it does!

If you are someone that freaks out each time you see a spider, peppermint oil will become your new best friend.

Peppermint oil has always been considered a natural insecticide thus it is an advantage to use it because as you can see, it repels away more than just insects.

Using peppermint oil is a great idea since it is dangerous to use chemical pesticides where you sleep.

All you have to do is mix the peppermint with a small amount of water in a plastic spraying bottle then spray the solution around your bed or where the spiders like to hide.

3. Avoid eating in your bed

If you don’t want these tiny uninvited guests in your bed, then you should consider keeping food off your bed. Unless you are really sick, make sure that all of the food remains in the kitchen.

Taking midnight snacks to your bed will always leave crumbs and other food debris on your bed sheets. This will attract insects which in turn attracts spiders that feed on them. It’s best to keep your food in the kitchen.

4. Wash the sheets on the regular

Well, now that you don’t eat on your bed, it doesn’t mean that your bed sheets won’t be getting dirty. You still need to do laundry on a weekly basis and don’t forget to use essential oils like the tea tree oil in your laundry detergent.

Washing your sheets is important because you might be sleeping in a sheet full of dead skin cells, the grime and dirt from your dirty clothes, moisture from your sweat among other things.

All these mixed with a few debris or dust particles can invite pests into your bed and once they start to crawl around, the spiders will also show up to pray on the insects. This is why you need to ensure that you wash your sheets regularly.

5. Avoid putting stuff under your bed

If you have a habit of putting things under your bed i.e. boxes, shoes or just anything else, you will be making a perfect place for spiders to hide and most probably find their way to your bed. This clearly shows it is a bad idea to keep things under your bed.

6. Watch the distance or raise your bed

You need to make sure that your bed is not placed against a wall with no headboard, also don’t push your bed into the corner. This will make it easy for the spiders to get to your bed from the cracks in the wall.

In addition, bed risers can also be used to lift your bed off of the ground. Spiders will have a difficult time to climb up onto an elevated bed. Be sure to use bed risers that are sleek so that spiders won’t be able to climb up onto them. I personally like these ones here and so do many other people as you can see from the reviews.

A slightly elevated bed will also ensure that spiders don’t nest under your bed.

7. Use Vinegar as an insecticide

Vinegar contains acetic acid, it is believed that this is the ingredient in vinegar that kills spiders. Vinegar can be mixed with water and sprayed onto spiders as one would normally do with insecticide.

This is a great option if you are looking for a late night diy insecticide that is both effective and safe to use around kids and animals.

8. Citrus candles

Spiders don’t enjoy the smell of citrus.

A great way to deter spiders and other insects is to burn citrus-scented candles in your bedroom.

Not only will a candle help you get rid of any unwanted spiders, but it will also help you get rid of any unpleasant odors in your house.

9. Door sweep

Spiders and insects can enter your home in a variety of different places.

Small gaps under your exterior doors are very popular entry points for spiders to enter through.

This is a very easy to fix problem. With the help of a door sweep, you will be able to keep out unwanted spiders and bugs from entering your home.

Doors sweeps do more than just keep bugs out, they also keep out unwanted cold or hot air depending on the season. If you use an air conditioner in your home a door sweep will assist with the efficiency of it and in return your utility bill will also be lower.

This adhesive silicone door sweep is affordable, easy to apply and very effective. If you are serious about keeping both the bugs and the unwanted hot or cold air out then look no further.

10. Use essential oils

We know that peppermint oil is an efficient spider deterrent, but there are other essential oils that also deter spiders and other insects. Below is a list of essential oils that you can use in your fight against spiders.

Simply mix a few drops of the oil with water and spray it on your bedding and in areas where spiders would want to hide.

It is also a great idea to add a few drops of one or more than one of these essential oils to your laundry detergent whenever you are washing your sheets.

  • Rose
  • Lavender
  • Cinnamon
  • Lemon
  • Peppermint
  • Tea tree
  • Eucalyptus

11. Exterminator

If all else fails then it might be time to call in the big guns. Sometimes we try everything from essential oils to doors sweeps and everything in between but nothing seems to work. Getting an exterminator in to come and clean your house is an option but it will be expensive, only go this route if there really is no better way.
